How to Choose the Right Sweater Size for Your Dog or Cat

Nothing looks cuter than a pet in a cozy sweater — but the right fit makes all the difference between comfort and frustration. Here is how to measure your dog or cat and choose the perfect size every time.

1. Measure the neck

Wrap a soft tape measure around the base of your pet's neck, where a collar naturally sits. Keep it snug but not tight — you should be able to slip two fingers underneath.

2. Measure the chest (girth)

Measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. This is the most important measurement for apparel, since it determines whether the garment will close comfortably.

3. Measure the back length

Measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. This tells you how long the sweater should be so it does not bunch up or leave the back exposed.

4. Compare with the size chart

Every MATERA PET product page includes a detailed size chart. Match your pet's measurements to the chart, and if your pet falls between two sizes, we recommend sizing up for a relaxed, comfortable fit.

5. Watch the fit at home

A good sweater should allow full movement, cover the back without dragging, and never restrict the legs or neck. If your pet seems uncomfortable, adjust the size.
